Personal situation
Jovana Skerlić is the older sister of Jovan Skerlić. She finished the Higher School for Girls in Belgrade. She was a translator. Some of Skerlić’s letters from his studies in Switzerland (Lausanne) were addressed to his sisters, or rather, specifically to her, and from these letters it is clear that Skerlić cared a lot about the education of his sisters. Her only portrait was kept in the Grenda family (the descendants of Ljiljana Skerlić, daughter of Jovan Skerlić), and then the University Library of Belgrade was allowed to take possession of it. In her Memoari (Memoirs), Klara Skerlić, the wife of Jovan Skerlić, points out that Jelena had a love affair with an army officer, because of which she died young.
